Here in Pennsylvania, your vehicle needs a safety inspection every year, and if it’s registered in Montgomery County, an emissions test goes along with it. At Retro Auto Works, our Pottstown and Glenside locations are both certified stations, so you can knock out your inspection and emissions test in one appointment. Schedule your inspection today.
Pennsylvania’s safety inspection has a set list, and we go through all of it. Here’s what’s getting looked at while your car is on the lift.
Pads, rotors, lines, and the parking brake, plus tread depth and sidewall condition. These are the two most common reasons a car doesn’t pass.
Ball joints, tie rods, shocks, and struts. Worn parts here are a safety issue before they’re an inspection issue, which is why the state looks closely at them.
Headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and hazards, along with cracks in your line of sight, missing mirrors, and wipers that streak instead of clear.
Leaks and holes from the manifold back, plus the emissions test itself. If your check engine light is on, the car fails automatically, so finding out what’s triggering that code has to happen first.

Most cars go through fine. When something doesn’t, the part people dread is the phone call: a number, a vague explanation, and no real way to know whether any of it is necessary. We took that call out of the process entirely.
Every vehicle that comes in gets a full health and safety check at no charge, on top of the state inspection. Your tech photographs what he finds, including the parts that are holding up fine.
Your service advisor sends the whole thing by text or email. You see the actual worn part on your actual car, with a plain explanation of what failed and what happens if it sits.
The estimate arrives the same way, itemized. Say yes to what you want handled now, say no to the rest, and nothing gets touched until you do.
Pennsylvania requires annual inspection on trailers, and not every shop is certified to do them. Both of our locations are, so if your trailer is under 10,000 lbs, you can bring it to Pottstown or Glenside and get it handled in the same visit as your car.
Inspection goes faster when you show up with what you need.
Both need to be current. If either one is expired, we can’t issue a sticker no matter how the car does on the rest of the inspection.
Call ahead and we’ll tell you what the day looks like. There’s a night drop box at both shops if your schedule doesn’t line up with ours.
Any noise, pull, vibration, or warning light is worth mentioning when you book. It gives the tech somewhere to start and can save you a separate visit.
Certifications matter more here than on most jobs, because a certified station is the only place that can legally issue your sticker.
Our technicians are ASE certified and both shops carry AAA Approved and Certified Auto Repair credentials. Honda master techs on staff, factory-grade tools and software.
Any repair we make to get you through inspection is covered by our Confidence Plus warranty on qualifying parts and labor, honored nationwide.
Certified inspection stations in Pottstown and Glenside, so wherever you are in Montgomery County, one of them is close.
A few things people ask before they book.
Pennsylvania sets the fee for the inspection itself, and emissions testing is billed separately. Call either shop and we’ll give you the current total before you come in, so there’s no surprise at the counter.
Most are done in about an hour when nothing turns up. If something fails, we send photos and an estimate instead of holding your car hostage, so you can decide what happens next on your own time.
You’ll get a report with photos of the parts that didn’t pass and an itemized estimate. Approve the repairs you want handled, decline the rest, and we’ll re-check the car once the work is done.
We offer loner cars at our Pottstown location. If your car fails inspection and needs repairs before we can issue a sticker, you’re not stuck figuring out a ride. Ask about a loaner when you book and we’ll have one ready.
If your vehicle is registered in Montgomery County, yes. Both are done in the same visit at either location, so it’s one appointment and one trip.
Both shops are certified for trailers under 10,000 lbs. Same annual requirement as your car, and we can usually handle it in the same visit.
Retro Auto Works is the best shop for inspections because you see everything we find. Free 75-point inspection, photos sent to your phone, itemized estimate you approve line by line, and a 2-year warranty behind the work.
Sticker coming due? Give us a call at either shop and we’ll get you in. Pottstown and Glenside are both certified for state inspection and emissions, and you’ll see photos of anything we find before a single repair gets approved. One appointment, one sticker, no guesswork.
